On October 20, Natalia Gherman, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Central Asia, Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), met Sadyr Japarov, Prime Minister and acting President of the Kyrgyz Republic, to discuss situation in the country.
Prime Minister Japarov outlined his intention to pursue political and socio-economic reforms. He also briefed about the plans to hold the new parliamentary elections on the basis of improved electoral legislation.
The SRSG highlighted that the current situation is exacerbated by the socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and therefore the UN would continue its humanitarian assistance, including through the United Nations COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund.
The SRSG underlined the paramount importance of rule of law, an uncompromised fight against corruption and organized crime.
