The process of the parliamentary elections in Turkmenistan has reached its active phase as the registered candidates have started their campaigns.
The system is geared to provide equal opportunity and equal facilities to all the candidates regardless of their party affiliation or none thereof.
The local administrations in their constituencies are obliged to arrange the same or similar space for campaign gatherings and necessary logistics to all the candidates.
The expenses, where necessary, come from the state funds. The candidates or their supporters do not make any campaign-related expenses.
The media is under instructions to provide equal space and exposure to all the candidates.
There are 258 candidates in the field, representing the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan, the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan, the Agrarian Party of Turkmenistan, and various citizen groups. They are competing for 125 seats of the house (Mejlis).
The elections will take place on 26 March 2023. /// nCa, 7 March 2023
