What associations arise in our minds when we hear about Italy? Yes, these are fascinating seascapes, wonderful cinematography, pizza and pasta, which have become an integral part of gastronomic culture almost all over the world, Fiat cars and luxury Lamborghini, the luminaries of science and art Da Vinci, Michelangelo and Italian painting, and much more ….an endless number of associations.
Perhaps this associative array will grow after visiting the exhibition “Italiae. From Alinari to the Masters of Contemporary Photography”, which takes place in Ashgabat at the Museum of Fine Arts.
Fratelli Alinari is one of the world’s oldest photographic firms, founded in Florence, Italy, in 1852. The archives of the Alinari Foundation contain 5.5 million photographs, ranging from daguerreotypes to modern digital photographs from around the world.
Famous masters of photography from various epochs of the past and present century drew their inspiration from the diversity and versatility of Italy.
The Ashgabat exposition features works of more than 75 photographers, different in technique and style, who captured the history of the evolution of the social, economic, cultural life of Italy, the formation of modern Italy.
The exhibition includes three sections: “Landscape”, “Works” and “Faces”. Each section offers a historical, geographical and artistic journey, aimed to reveal a continuous series of changes in Italian life through the bright thematic contrasts, such as North and South, city and countryside, work and leisure, traditions and innovations, social history and cultural life.
The photo show is held on the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy and the Fondazione Alinari per la Fotografia and is organized by the Italian Embassy in Ashgabat in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan.
The exhibition will last until 10 June.
