From 22 to 26 May 2023, with the assistance of the World Customs Organization (WCO) and with the sponsorship of the China Customs Cooperation Fund (CCF China), a risk management seminar was organized for employees of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan.
The seminar was attended by 20 specialists from various departments involved in the process of implementing the risk management system in customs authorities, the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan reports.
The five-day workshop was conducted by Mr. Akhilesh Pandey, an accredited WCO risk management expert from the Indian Customs Service, and Ms. Yuko Mamiya, a pre-accredited WCO risk management expert from the Japanese Customs Service.
During the seminar, experts presented the WCO Customs Risk Management Compendium, the latest WCO materials and tools in the field of risk identification and profile development. The program included risk management at the organizational level; operational risk management (i.e. risk assessment, profiling and goal setting, including information and operational data).
The participants discussed how to identify and eliminate risks, as well as how to develop an effective profile using the methodology set out in the WCO Handbook on Customs Risk Management. At the seminar, theoretical and practical classes provided participants with the opportunity to exchange views and experiences with the WCO facilitators.
As the workshop participants noted, it was a good opportunity to strengthen their existing risk management processes and adopt new approaches for future risk assessment, profiling and identification operations, including the exchange of information and operational data.///nCa, 29 May 2023
