President of Turkmenistan received the OSCE Secretary General – Arkadag city and Turkmenbashi Port awarded certificates
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received on Thursday, 1 June, OSCE Secretary General Ms. Helga Schmid.
During the meeting, Ms.Helga Schmid handed the President of Turkmenistan a certificate of accession of the city of Arkadag to the project “Development of sustainable, green, climate-friendly cities with innovative solutions in the region of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe” and the certificate “EcoPorts” awarded to the International Seaport of Turkmenbashi.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov congratulated Ms. Helga Schmid on the opening of the new building of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat.
The head of state stressed that the presentation of the above-mentioned certificates confirm the successful combination of result-oriented efforts in the field of ecology.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the issues of international politics and security. In this aspect, it was noted that security is the main condition for the peaceful life of people. In the modern world, every country should actively participate in the coordination of multilateral efforts aimed at maintaining regional and international security.
The use of political and diplomatic mechanisms is of particular importance in solving topical issues on the global agenda, strengthening mutual trust and promoting constructive dialogue.
In this regard, it was mentioned that the International Conference “The role of neutral states in strengthening security, stability and dialogue in the OSCE region”, recently held in Ashgabat became a successful example of the fact that bilateral cooperation is complemented by parliamentary relations.
As President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted, ensuring efficient and sustainable transit of international energy resources directly affects the well-being and prosperity of the entire region. Being a country rich in energy resources, Turkmenistan is taking targeted measures to ensure international energy security.
In this context, the head of state stressed the expediency of carrying out specific work within the OSCE framework on bringing energy resources to the world market and transit, including political, financial, technological and environmental aspects.
The discussion also covered the potential for expanding cooperation in other priority sectors, such as the transport and transit, enhancing the activities of democratic institutions, ensuring human rights and freedoms, gender equality, etc. ///nCa, 2 June 2023

Turkmenistan attaches great importance to cooperation with foreign partners, including the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe and other major international organizations, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed during a meeting on Thursday, 1 June 1, with OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid.
It was noted that relations between Turkmenistan and the OSCE are currently developing on a programmatic basis. In recent years, they have been supplemented by inter-parliamentary cooperation. In this regard, the successful holding by the Parliament of Turkmenistan and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly of the international conference “The role of neutral states in strengthening security, stability and dialogue in the OSCE space” was noted.
At the same time, the sides underlined the need to implement measures in specific areas, including ensuring safe and reliable supply of energy resources to world markets, creating conditions for sustainable economic development, increasing transport potential, environmental protection, planning the rational use of water resources.
During the meeting, the National Leader of the Turkmen people noted that the awarding the Arkadag city with the certificate of accession to the project “Development of sustainable, green, climate-friendly cities with innovative solutions in the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe region” and the certificate “EcoPorts” to the International Seaport of Turkmenbashi testifies to the effectiveness of Turkmenistan and the OSCE activities in the field of ecology.

OSCE Secretary General stressed the role of Turkmenistan’s neutrality in the region
On Thursday, 1 June, the Parliament of Turkmenistan hosted a meeting with the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Ms. Helga Schmid.
During the meeting, the chairperson of the Mejlis Dunyagozel Gulmanova said that one of the priorities of the foreign policy strategy of Turkmenistan is the development of long-term and effective cooperation with international organizations, including the OSCE, the partnership with which is expanding and strengthening every year, covering new areas.
The Secretary General highlighted the role of Turkmenistan’s neutrality policy in ensuring peace, security and sustainable development in the region and beyond. In particular, the progressive expansion of cooperation in the field of energy and environmental security, sustainable transport and water diplomacy was noted.
The sides expressed mutual interest in intensifying the inter-parliamentary dialogue, supporting the idea of expanding the experience exchange in the field of legislation, regular bilateral inter-parliamentary meetings and consultations. ///nCa, 2 June 2023

On the sidelines of visit to Ashgabat, OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid met with Mammetkhan Chakiyev, Director General of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.
The parties discussed issues of multilateral cooperation in the transport and communication sphere.

During her visit to Ashgabat, OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid had meetings with Ombudsman of Turkmenistan and representatives of NGO.
“Very informative meeting with Ombudsperson Yazdursun Gurbannazarova. Glad that OSCE can support your important work on social protection issues, women‘s rights and women‘s empowerment”, wrote in Twitter Helga Schmid.
According to her tweet, she was impressed by civil society’s work on countering human trafficking, protecting the environment and providing support to the most vulnerable members of society.
