A refrigerated warehouse with freezing facilities has started working in the Balkanabat city of the Balkan province of Turkmenistan. It is owned by Toydurdy Gulnazarov, a member of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.
The capacity of the warehouse is 500 tons and it can store different products at separate temperatures according to their storage requirements. There is the provision to keep the fruit, dairy products, meat products and other food products in refrigerated or frozen condition. The advanced technology also allows for regulating the storage conditions according to the need.
Because of its location and capacity, this warehouse is a valuable addition to the sustainability of the food supply chain of Turkmenistan.
The local producers and traders are renting the space on spot or long-term contracts with the owner of the warehouse.
Food security is among the top priorities of the domestic policy of Turkmenistan. In a holistic approach where everything is connected with everything else, Turkmenistan considers that the food security an integral part of the overall security of the country.
The president of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, has repeatedly called for integrated approach toward maintaining ample supply of food products across the country.
Simultaneously, the system is encouraging the local production of fruit and vegetables to feed the markets in each province. This helps save on the transportation costs and is also an additional layer of sustainability in case the transportation is restricted in a scenario to the Covid-19 restrictions.
The ultimate goal is to make Turkmenistan a net exporter of food products. This goal has already been achieved in some products such as tomatoes and melons. ///nCa, 13 June 2023
