From 11 to 17 June, representatives of the Association “Turkmen Logistics” and the member companies of the Association – JSC “Transport and Logistics Center of Turkmenistan” and Economic Society “Halkara gatnaw logistika”, take part in a study trip to the ports of Latvia and Lithuania, the Association “Turkmenlogistics” reports.
The trip was organized by the USAID Project on Trade in Central Asia in cooperation with TRACECA project and the Union of Transport Workers of Kazakhstan “Kazlogistics”. It is also attended by representatives of transport agencies, transport and logistics companies, business circles of Latvia, Lithuania and Central Asian countries.
The main purpose of this event is to explore new transport routes and their capabilities. In particular, B2B meetings are planned between interested companies from Latvia, Lithuania and Central Asia. Issues related to the prospects for the development of a sustainable transport system between Europe and Central Asia, the TRACECA international transport corridor, etc. will also be considered.
On 12 June, a round table was organized in Riga, the capital of Latvia, with the participation of delegations from the transport sectors of Central Asian countries, Lithuania and Latvia.
Deputy Secretary of State of the Ministry of Transport of Latvia Uldis Reimanis, as well as high-ranking officials of transport departments of Central Asian countries, delivered a welcoming speech at the event.
“Latvia has all the prerequisites to become a strategic partner of the Central Asian countries in the European Union, providing trade and passenger flows to/from the EU through Latvia. The Latvian transport and logistics industry can offer efficient logistics solutions and services. We have advanced land, rail, port and air transport hub for passengers and cargo in the Baltic Sea region and on the EU border with eastern countries. Three Latvian ports – Riga, Ventspils and Liepaja – are closely integrated into the Eurasian Transport Corridors and are supported by multimodal transport services of Latvian Railways. The Latvian national airline air Baltic and Riga Airport offer a wide network of communications, and Latvijas Pasts successfully develops innovative solutions for e-commerce and mail delivery,” Uldis Reimanis emphasized.
In the second session of the round table, the participants got acquainted with the presentations of the TRACECA organization and the Latvian Transport Inspectorate.

In the afternoon, a Transport and logistics business forum was held, which brought together about 70 businessmen from Central Asian countries.
At the business forum, projects of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Latvian Stevedores Association, the Latvian Logistics Association, the Association “Latvijas Auto” were presented, and B2B meetings were also held.

The meeting of the Turkmenistan-Latvia joint working group on cooperation in the transport sector will take place on the sidelines of the trip. In addition, the Turkmen delegation will visit Latvian and Lithuanian ports in the coming days.
Memorandums of Understanding between the Turkmen Logistics Association and the Latvian National Association of Freight Forwarders and Logistics (LAFF), as well as with the Lithuanian National Association of Freight Forwarders and Logisticians (LINEKA) will be inked during the visit.
