The current state and prospects of joint work within the human dimension of the OSCE were discussed at the meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov with the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Kairat Abdrakhmanov, on Tuesday, 13 June, the foreign ministry of Turkmenistan said.
Meredov stressed that in recent years Turkmenistan’s cooperation with the Office of the High Commissioner has reached a new level and has acquired a systematic and consistent character.
The sphere of education has been identified as a priority area of cooperation.
In this context, an important step was the signing in April 2021 of a memorandum between the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan and the Office of HCNM for cooperation on linguistic and cultural diversity in Turkmenistan.
In order to implement the Memorandum, it is proposed to continue active cooperation with the Office of the High Commissioner within the framework of the Educational Program in Central Asia, the fourth phase of which ends in December this year. The project aims to enhance the integration of various ethnic communities in Central Asia by improving the educational level.
The parties agreed to develop a Roadmap for the implementation of this Memorandum for 2023-2025.
Cooperation within the framework of the National Action Plan on Human Rights in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025 was mentioned as another promising area of collaboration.
The sides also exchanged views on the agenda of the upcoming round table on “OSCE Best Practices in the field of effective participation of National minorities in consultative mechanisms”, to be held in Ashgabat on 15 June.
Earlier, the OSCE HCNM had a meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament of Turkmenistan Dunyagozel Gulmanova. ///nCa, 13 June 2023
