During his speech at SCO Summit on 4 July 2023, the President Emomali Rahmon stressed the importance of further promoting cooperation within the SCO on the basis of coordinated actions and principles of mutual respect.
The President of Tajikistan noted that the increasing attention of the world community to the SCO, embodying the unique interconnectedness of civilizations and cultures, is a confirmation of its high attractiveness. In this context, Rahmon proposed to develop a concept for further expansion of the SCO in the medium term.
In the aspect of security, he emphasized the growing threats of terrorism and extremism in the SCO space, as well as the trend of increasing drug trafficking, the growth of cybercrime and organized cross-border crime. The importance of the effective implementation of the Program of Cooperation in Countering Terrorism, Separatism and Extremism adopted in Dushanbe until 2024 and the continuation of comprehensive work to improve the regulatory framework, taking into account the creation of a SCO anti-drug structure in the capital of Tajikistan, was stressed.
In the context of the economic agenda, Emomali Rahmon called for the full use of existing favorable opportunities and competitive advantages for the development of the SCO countries. It was noted that these tasks are the basis of the SCO Economic Development Strategy initiated by Tajikistan for the period up to 2030, the implementation of which will provide a strategic breakthrough for the Organization with an emphasis on the development of the “green” agenda. ///nCa, 5 July 2023
