At the beginning of last year at the East Cheleken field on the Caspian coast of Turkmenistan, the first directional evaluation well was drilled. Currently, the daily crude production from this well, located in the shallow part of the Caspian Sea, reaches 10-12 tons per day, the newspaper “Turkmenistan” writes.
The directional drilling is not only economically cost-effective, but also technically and environmentally safe method. This is explained by the fact that the main column of the drilling rig is located at a distance of 450-475 meters from the seashore, and after the specified limit is directed towards shallow water. Another feature of this innovative drilling method is the possibility of extracting crude oil from the overlying layers after the development of the project horizons.
The oil and gas production department “Galkynyshnebit” of the state concern “Turkmennebit” [Turkmen oil] is engaged in the extraction of oil and gas at the East Cheleken field.
In January-July 2023, the oil production from wells controlled by Galkynyshnebit reached 34,884 tons or 2,400 tons up from the targets. The production growth rate was 102% year-on-year.
During this period, Galkynyshnebit produced more than 300 million cubic meters of gas. The gas production plan was fulfilled by 216%.
The total number of producing wells available to Galkynyshnebit exceeds 160. The design depth of wells currently operated in the continental part of the Cheleken Peninsula ranges from 1200 to 2750 meters.
The prospects for extracting hydrocarbon resources from these reserves are mainly associated with offshore formations. However, there are also significant reserves of crude oil in the continental part of the Cheleken Peninsula. Exploration drilling results have shown that there are many reservoirs in this area. This indicates the great potential of the Cheleken field for economic efficiency in drilling ever deeper wells.///nCa, 31 August 2023
