As part of the official visit of the St. Petersburg’s delegation, on Monday, 11 September, Governor Alexander Beglov met with Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, foreign minister Rashid Meredov, the administration of St. Petersburg reports.
“The Government of St. Petersburg highly appreciates the partnership with Turkmenistan. Their development remains one of the priorities of our foreign economic and international activities,” he said.
He stressed that relations between St. Petersburg and Turkmenistan have reached a fundamentally new level of project cooperation and mutual trust.
According to the Governor, trade and economic cooperation between St. Petersburg and Turkmenistan has enormous potential.
As steps to promote the trade partnership, Beglov proposed the opening of a St. Petersburg Trading House in Turkmenistan and a Trading House of Turkmenistan in St. Petersburg. He also expressed willingness to work with local retail chains to promote Turkmen products on their market.
During the meeting, the issue of organizing the St. Petersburg-Turkmen Business Forum was discussed. The agreement on its holding was reached within the framework of an informal meeting of the leaders of the CIS countries in October 2022.
The cultural and humanitarian sphere is an important area of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Saint Petersburg. In the context of discussing ways to preserve and promote the cultural and spiritual values and traditions of the two countries, the possibility of holding joint events dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the classical poet and thinker of the East, Magtymguly, was considered, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports. ///nCa, 12 September 2023
