UNICEF and the Ministry of Education joined forces to organize the first Educational Robotics Competition in Turkmenistan. The event took place on 23-24 September 2023, at School No. 97 in Ashgabat, marking a significant step forward in Turkmenistan’s educational advancement.
The Educational Robotics Competition served a dual purpose: to raise awareness among pupils, teachers, and parents about the pedagogical benefits of educational robotics and to motivate them to explore this exciting educational avenue. By doing so, the competition aspired to elevate the quality of education and foster a passion for learning through contemporary teaching methods.
The girls and boys from all regions of Turkmenistan competed in six categories, each designed to set creativity and problem-solving skills. These included the Robot Race, a fast-paced competition of automated robots, and the “Mars Rover” challenge, where robots navigated an artificial terrain riddled with obstacles. Additionally, participants showcased their STEM-related projects, demonstrating their prowess in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Outstanding projects were awarded with an array of prizes which included televisions, tablets, Robotics kits, and smartwatches, all designed to inspire and equip the next generation of innovators.
This educational journey, spearheaded by UNICEF and the Ministry of Education, reaffirms Turkmenistan’s commitment to providing a world-class education that prepares its youth for the challenges of the future. The highly attended Educational Robotics Competition demonstrates the children’s interest in technology and innovation and the nation’s dedication to embracing modernized teaching methods and harnessing the potential of technology to empower its students. ///UNICEF, Turkmenistan, 25 September 2023
