The international film festival “Dawn of Arkadag” was held in the city of Arkadag, Turkmenistan, on 14-15 October 2023. The red carpet event was organized by the State Committee for Television, Radio Broadcasting, and Cinematography of Turkmenistan.
The festival brought together actors, directors, producers, film and theater stars, and cinematographers from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Türkiye, France, and Turkmenistan.
Among the foreign participants were Dilshodbek Usmanov, director of the Cinematography Agency of Uzbekistan; Elena Norkunaite, correspondent and director of the TV program “Russia Today”; Ihsan Nurullah Kabil, film critic; Israfil Kurulai, director Mehmet Bozdag, founder of the Turkish film company “Bozdag Film”; Movie stars from Türkiye: Burak Ozchivit, Ozcan Cagry Sensoy, Fatih Ayhan, Yigit Ucan, Murat Boncuk; Eduard Montut, actor of the French company “Monde et Media”, Gian-Marie Laronz, producer.
On the sidelines of the festival, foreign film stars gave a master class for students of the Turkmen State Institute of Culture. Burak Ozchivit, Mehmet Bozdag, and Eduard Montut spoke about the difficulties they face during filming and gave advice to future actors.
On the final day, 15 October, the award ceremony for the winners of the international film festival took place.
1st place: “Kagyza yazylan ykbal” (Fate written on paper) by Sapardurdy Annaev (Turkmenistan)
2nd place: “Gelin heýkeli” (Kyrgyzstan)
3rd place: “Sary ömür” (Kazakhstan)
Diplomas and valuable gifts were awarded to cinematographers from:
- Kazakhstan (film “Gopuz”)
- Tajikistan (film “Sary çeşme”)
- Turkmenistan (films “Toý köýnek”, “Umyt”, and “Nesibe”)
- Uzbekistan (films “Üzüm” and “Meniń arzuwym Özbegistan”)
- Kyrgyzstan (films “Umut”, “Öz kakasyny ogly”, and “Poçtaçy”)
- TRT TV channel in Turkmenistan
- “Bozdag” Group (Türkiye)
- Russia (film “Ahalteke”)
The winner of the first place was awarded a cup in the form of a monument to the horse Akhan.
Special awards for participation and valuable gifts were received by Turkish director Mehmet Bozdag and correspondent and director of the TV channel “Russia Today” Elena Norkunaite.
Next year, the Korkut Ata Film Festival will be held in the Turkmen city of Anau, as this ancient city was declared the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2024. ///nCa, 16 October 2023 [Photo credit – TDH]
