Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan intend to develop the international multimodal transport corridor “Russia – Caspian Sea – Turkmenistan – Uzbekistan – Kyrgyzstan”.
The relevant memorandum was signed on 1 November 2023, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, at the Transport Forum of the SCO member states between the Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Ikhlom Makhkamov, Deputy Minister of Transport of Russia Dmitry Zverev, and the Minister of Transport and Communications of Kyrgyzstan Tilek Tekebayev.
The corridor Russia – Caspian Sea – Turkmenistan – Uzbekistan – Kyrgyzstan, or the “Southern Transport Corridor”, starts in the south of Kyrgyzstan, pass through Uzbekistan, and then Turkmenistan, before reaching the port of Turkmenbashi on the Caspian Sea. From there, it will head north to Astrakhan, Russia.
Quadrilateral talks on this subject between authorized bodies and businesses of Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Uzbekistan were held in January 2023. ///nCa, 2 November 2023
