On 2 November 2023, the 5th meeting of the Turkmenistan-Republic of Korea Business Council and the 4th meeting of the Central Asia-Republic of Korea Business Council were held in Ashgabat, TDH reports.
The Turkmenistan-Korea Business Council meeting was attended by representatives of ministries and industry departments, including the fuel and energy sector, the transport sector, the textile industry, water management, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan, as well as representatives of Korea’s Ministry of Environment, the Korean International Trade Association (KITA), the Korean Textile Trade Association (KTTA), the Korean Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH), and companies specializing in various fields.
The meeting participants discussed ways to expand partnership in energy, the textile industry, healthcare, ecology, the transport and communication sector, the oil and gas complex, agriculture and water management, high technology, science and education, tourism, and other areas.
They also noted the long-term nature of Turkmenistan’s cooperation with leading Korean companies, which have implemented joint projects to build large production complexes in the country, such as the natural gas desulfurization plant at the Galkynysh field, the modernization of the Turkmenbashi complex of oil refineries, and Kiyanly gas chemical complex for the production of polyethylene and polypropylene in the Balkan province. A significant part of the country’s public transport fleet also consists of Korean-made buses and cars.
The Korean delegation was briefed on the achievements of Turkmenistan’s national socio-economic development, and the meeting participants expressed particular interest in Korean science-intensive high technologies in the context of Turkmenistan’s concept of widespread introduction of the digital system and attraction of the best international experience in this field.
The Central Asia-Korea Business Council meeting explored investment opportunities in the field of digital transformation of industry and transport/logistics in Central Asian countries, as well as the experience of Korean companies operating or wishing to enter this field. The Korean business community expressed readiness to provide its latest scientific and industrial developments for the implementation of joint projects of national and regional importance in Central Asia.
The meeting also heard a report on the activities of the CA-Korea Business Council for 2023 and proposals for a Work Plan for 2024. ///nCa, 3 November 2023
