The Turkmen Ambassador to Belgium Sapar Palvanov met with David McAllister, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament.
The ambassador emphasized the important role of in strengthening closer ties between Turkmenistan and the European Union.
Emphasizing the importance of the visit of the European Parliament delegation to Turkmenistan in June this year, led by MEP Tomasz Zdechowski, Ambassador noted the importance of such meetings for a comprehensive exchange of views with various Turkmen structures, including government agencies, the private sector and public organizations of the country.
Ambassador Palvanov highlighted a number of existing cooperation mechanisms between Turkmenistan and the EU. Among them, the Joint Committee and dialogue in the field of human rights are noted – key for both sides.
For his part, David McAllister outlined the EU’s strategic perspective, identifying Central Asia as one of the priority regions.
The MEP outlined key aspects of the work of the European Parliament ahead of the upcoming elections in 2024. McAllister expressed a positive view of the existing formats of cooperation: EU-Central Asia, Central Asia-Germany, emphasizing the EU’s commitment to these relations. ///nCa, 9 November 2023
