Turkmenistan and Japan are set to strengthen their parliamentary ties through reciprocal visits of Speaker of Turkmen Parliament and Japanese Lawmakers in the first half of 2024. This agreement was reached during a meeting in Tokyo on 22 January 2024, between Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and a delegation of Japanese lawmakers led by Toshiaki Endo, Chairman of the Japan-Turkmenistan Interparliamentary Friendship Group.
During the meeting, the sides stressed the important role of inter-parliamentary relations, which are one of the key areas for expanding partnership between the two countries. In this regard, the importance of the activities of the Turkmen-Japanese parliamentary friendship group was noted, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan notes.
Minister Meredov highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy within Turkmenistan’s foreign policy, particularly the role of young parliamentarians in injecting dynamism into bilateral parliamentary relations. ///nCa, 25 January 2024
