On 27 March 2024, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and a delegation led by United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili. His visit coincided with the International Conference “Main directions and potential for tourism development in Turkmenistan.”
Following opening remarks, Minister Meredov and the UNWTO delegation engaged in a productive exchange of views on advancing Turkmenistan’s tourism industry through collaboration with the UNWTO. Discussions focused on potential avenues for cooperation, including:
• Implementation of joint tourism investment projects
• Training tourist guides in partnership with the UNWTO Academy
• UNWTO Silk Road Program assistance
• Collaboration in marketing and communications
The meeting also delved into the UNWTO’s potential participation in the Strategic Advisory Council “Turkmenistan-UN,” established on 8 March 2024. Additionally, the discussions explored Turkmenistan’s potential accession and contribution to global tourism initiatives.
Finally, the parties discussed cooperation on the development and implementation of the Turkmenistan Cooperation Program in the field of tourism for 2024-2025. ///nCa, 28 March 2024
