Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met with Kubanychbek Omuraliev, Secretary-General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), on 27 March 2024, in Ashgabat. Omuraliev’s visit coincided with the announcement of Anau, an ancient Turkmen city, as the 2024 cultural capital of the Turkic world.
Minister Meredov underscored that strengthening ties with Turkic states is a cornerstone of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy. He emphasized the importance of cooperation within international and regional organizations, particularly the OTS.
The discussion focused on expanding cooperation within the OTS framework. Turkmenistan, currently an observer country, expressed its active participation and interest in exploring partnerships with affiliated organizations like TURKPA, the Turkic Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Foundation of Turkic Culture and Heritage.
The sides stressed the successful high-level Meeting of the OTS Council of Elders held in Ashgabat on 11-12 March 2024, with the participation of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Chairman of Turkmenistan’s Halk Maslahaty.
