A Japanese parliamentary delegation led by Toshiaki Endo, Chairman of the Japan-Turkmenistan Interparliamentary Friendship Group and member of the House of Representatives of Japan, arrived in Ashgabat for a visit.
On 13 May 2014, Toshiaki Endo met with Mejlis Chairperson Ms.Dunyagozel Gulmanova.
The sides highlighted the crucial role of inter-parliamentary cooperation in fostering relations across various fields.
They emphasized the importance of the first parliamentary leaders’ meeting between Central Asia and Japan in Ashgabat, supporting the “Central Asia+Japan” dialogue initiative proposed by the National Leader of Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
The discussions underscored parliamentary dialogue as a key driver for expanding bilateral cooperation. The activities of parliamentary friendship groups were named as vital for sharing legislative expertise.
The sides emphasized the significant potential for growth in cultural and humanitarian cooperation. Events celebrating the 300th anniversary of poet Magtymguly Fragi were highlighted as a major boost to cultural ties and people-to-people exchanges.
Later that day, a regular meeting of the Japan-Turkmenistan Parliamentary Friendship Group convened, focusing on improving the effectiveness of bilateral parliamentary cooperation.
The sides expressed their commitment to supporting intergovernmental cooperation through parliamentary channels, solidifying the legal framework of the relationship, and fostering collaboration in parliamentary and legislative work.
The focus on enhancing cooperation across political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian spheres continued during Toshiaki Endo’s meeting with Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov.
A key topic was the upcoming inaugural Summit of the “Central Asia+Japan” Dialogue.
