On 14 May 2024, Astana hosted a meeting of Senior Officials for the Central Asia + Japan Dialogue. Representatives from the foreign ministries of Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan attended, along with Tajikistan’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan.
The Turkmen delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Gurbanov.
Discussions centered on preparations for the upcoming Central Asia + Japan Dialogue Summit, scheduled for this summer in Astana. The agenda and draft final documents for the summit were thoroughly examined.
The meeting also explored the current state and future potential for bolstering regional cooperation in trade, economics, transportation, and humanitarian endeavors.
Concluding the meeting, participants agreed to maintain ongoing communication on all relevant issues.
Launched in 2004 at Japan’s initiative, the Central Asia + Japan Dialogue fosters cooperation between Japan and the Central Asian nations. Kazakhstan holds the chairmanship for 2024. ///nCa, 15 May 2024
