Turkmenistan and Japan held political consultations on 17 May 2024 in Ashgabat. Deputy Minister Akhmet Gurbanov led the Turkmen delegation and Masaki Ikegami, Special Representative for Central Asian Affairs at the Japanese Foreign Ministry, represented Japan.
The sides commended the strong partnership between their foreign ministries, which fosters regional cooperation and cooperation within international organizations, particularly the United Nations. Discussions covered pressing regional and international issues, as reported by the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.
A key focus was the upcoming first Summit of the “Central Asia+Japan” Dialogue countries.
The participation of Turkmenistan in the World EXPO 2025 in Osaka, Japan, was also discussed. Turkmenistan’s National Day will be celebrated on 14 April, the day after the exhibition opens.
Economic cooperation, particularly in the oil and gas, petrochemical, power, and transportation sectors, received significant attention.
The importance of the Turkmen-Japanese and Japanese-Turkmen Committees for Economic Cooperation in promoting this mutually beneficial partnership was emphasized. ///nCa, 20 May 2024
