From 10 to 11 June 2024, the President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol will pay a state visit to Turkmenistan.
This visit will be the first state visit of the President of Korea to Turkmenistan in the last five years since 2019.
The national Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited the Republic of Korea in November 2022, which was a vivid demonstration of the intensification of high-level exchanges that contribute to the further deepening and development of bilateral mutually beneficial partnership.
The Republic of Korea stands out among the countries of East Asia for its outstanding economic development. In a short period by historical standards, the Republic of Korea has become an economic power, one of the ten largest trading countries in the world. It is home to some of the world’s leading enterprises in the field of semiconductor manufacturing, batteries, shipbuilding, automotive and other industries. In addition, Korean culture currently enjoys significant international recognition.
Turkmenistan’s special ties with Korea go back to ancient times, marked by historical exchanges. As the transport and logistics center of the Eurasian continent, Turkmenistan has every opportunity to partner with Korea in such important areas as investment, technology and infrastructure, which are necessary for future development.
Currently, several Korean companies are involved in infrastructure projects in Turkmenistan, including the development of gas fields and the construction of industrial enterprises. Other Korean companies are also expressing great interest in participating in similar projects. The Turkmen side hopes that this visit will provide additional opportunities for the development of business cooperation between the two countries.
In the current international situation, numerous opportunities are opening up for the Turkmen and Korean sides, including those related to green growth and digital transformation. Now, more than ever, there is an urgent need for solidarity and partnership, primarily in order to turn the challenges of our time into new opportunities.
Fruitful discussions are planned within the framework of the visit of the President of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol. In particular, such key and promising areas as energy and smart cities will be considered.
Since taking office, the President of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol, has been playing an active role in promoting global peace and prosperity, striving to make Korea a “Key global state.” Under his chairmanship, Seoul hosted the Second World Summit on Artificial Intelligence in May this year, and last week the Korea-Africa Summit was held.
In accordance with the UN General Assembly Resolution adopted on March 21, 2024, 2025 has been declared the International Year of Peace and Trust. In this context, it should be emphasized that Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea are committed to joint efforts carried out within the framework of the international community, recognizing that global issues should be resolved through peaceful diplomatic means and methods.
Turkmenistan warmly welcomes the state visit of the President of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol. At the same time, the Turkmen side expresses deep confidence that this visit will contribute to further expansion of cooperation between the Republic of Korea and Turkmenistan, as well as between Korea and the Central Asian region. ///Originally published by TDH, 10 June 2024
