The 16th meeting of the Turkmenistan-European Union Human Rights Dialogue convened in Ashgabat on 25 June 2024, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and EU Special Representative for Human Rights Olof Skoog opened the meeting. Discussions centered on expanding cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EU in the areas of human rights and humanitarian law.
The sides exchanged views on advancements in civil society, strengthening the rule of law through judicial reform, and collaboration in education, healthcare, gender equality, and protections for children and people with disabilities.
The dialogue also addressed the implementation of Turkmenistan’s National Action Plan on Human Rights (2021-2025), focusing on ongoing improvements to law enforcement and responsibility for human rights. Additionally, the activities of the Ombudsman Institute in 2024 were a topic of discussion.
The meeting explored potential joint projects between Turkmenistan and the EU for the near future. ///MFA Turkmenistan
