Ambassador John MacGregor, Head of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat, speaking at the conference the session 1 of ITTC Conference themed “Transport Transit Corridors and Intermodal Connectivity”, stressed the role of modernization and expansion of transit corridors to strengthen economic stability and environmental sustainability.
The OSCE, as the largest regional security organization, promotes the concept of integrated security, which covers political, economic, environmental and human dimensions.
According to the Ambassador, enhanced transport connectivity can significantly increase trade volumes, thereby stimulating economic growth and development.
He stressed that Central Asia plays a key role in the development of new routes, such as the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor linking China, Central Asia and Europe.
The development of sustainable transport corridors not only contributes to economic growth, but also minimizes the impact on climate change. Modern multimodal corridors, including rail, sea and road transport, help reduce the carbon footprint through the use of “green” technologies and digital solutions, said the head of the OSCE Center.
Ambassador MacGregor affirmed the OSCE’s commitment to continuing support for regional countries in fulfilling their international obligations regarding the development of transport and trade connectivity.
He highlighted several OSCE initiatives, including the “Strengthening Border Service Capacities in Turkmenistan” project, implemented by the Center in Ashgabat. This project emphasizes regional cooperation in border management and transportation. Successful events such as seminars on digital transport corridors and sustainable port development, including support for the internationally recognized EcoPort of Turkmenbashi, have also been significant milestones. ///nCa, 27 November 2024
