Turkmenistan prioritizes the issues of providing the population with clean drinking water. Within the framework of the “General Program for providing Turkmenistan’s settlements with clean drinking water”, the rational use of water resources and the creation of water treatment facilities remain under spotlight. Work is underway throughout the country on the construction and reconstruction of water supply and sewerage facilities, as well as innovative projects in the water sector.
One of the largest sources of water in the western region of the country is Lake Yasga, located in Karakum, in the ancient Uzbek riverbed. This lake, located well below sea level, is an underground reservoir of fresh groundwater. The name “Yasga” is translated from the Turkmen language as “lowland”.
According to Jepbar Bazarov, chief engineer of the water extraction and transportation workshop of the local water supply department (State Concern “Turkmen Oil”), fresh water reserves near the lake are huge. The daily flow rate of the existing wells is about 16-17,000 cubic meters of fresh water, which fully satisfies the needs of the local population.
On the territory of Lake Yasga there are three reservoirs with a total capacity of 7,000 cubic meters, which serve as a reserve for the workshop.
The workshop, which is one of the oldest enterprises of the State Concern, supplies clean drinking water to many towns and villages of oil workers. Equipped with modern technology, the department ensures uninterrupted operations. Advanced instrumentation and control systems optimize the use of extracted water. Freshwater is transported to Balkanabat via a 120-kilometer main water pipeline.///nCa, 14 January 2025 (based on the materials of the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper, photo credit – Alpagama)
