On 12 February 2025, within the framework of the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov to the Islamic Republic of Iran, a meeting was held with the Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), Dr. Asad Majid Khan.
During the meeting, an interested exchange of views took place on the current state of multifaceted cooperation between Turkmenistan and the ECO, and ways to further develop the partnership were outlined. It was noted that the positive experience of joint work accumulated over the past years serves as a reliable basis.
The Minister stressed that Turkmenistan strives to contribute to improving the effectiveness of this multilateral structure. The transport sector and cross-border trade were identified as one of the priority areas. In this context, the importance of the Framework Agreement on Transport and Transit, as well as the Trade Agreement of the Organization, was noted.
The sides discussed the issues of holding joint seminars and trainings.
Dr. Khan informed the Minister about the upcoming important ministerial meetings in the fields of trade, tourism and transport, as well as about the 17th ECO Summit to be held in Azerbaijan on 3-4 July 2025.
He also informed about the readiness of the ECO Secretariat to work closely with the relevant authorities in order to successfully hold a Forum on Sustainable Development at the ministerial level in the city of Arkadag.
The Minister invited the Secretary General to take part in events held in Turkmenistan within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust.
At the end of the meeting, having confirmed the commitment of Turkmenistan and the ECO to a constructive dialogue, the parties expressed confidence in the further progressive development of cooperation.///nCa, 13 February 2025
