On 12 February 2025, political consultations were held in Tehran between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Turkmen side was headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, and the Iranian side was headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran Seyed Abbas Araqchi, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports.
During the consultations, the sides exchanged views on issues of bilateral partnership in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields.
The parties noted that regular and trust-based dialogue at the highest political level contributes to the further strengthening of traditional good-neighborly ties.
Noting the importance of the International Year of Peace and Trust, the delegations discussed the possibilities of building up Turkmen-Iranian cooperation to strengthen international peace, stability and sustainable development. In this regard, the importance of partnership within the framework of the United Nations, as well as other international and regional structures, in particular ECO, OIC, was emphasized. The sides reviewed the issues of the international and regional agenda.
The delegations noted the importance of inter-parliamentary relations. It was noted that the interparliamentary friendship group of the two countries is successfully working in this direction. Upcoming events in this area were discussed.
Trade and economic cooperation was a separate topic of discussion. The indicators of the bilateral trade turnover were considered. The fuel and energy and transport sectors were named among the priorities.
The parties outlined further steps to implement the tasks of cooperation, including in the field of water resources management. In this regard, the leading role of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation was highlighted.
In addition, the meeting participants discussed issues of cultural and humanitarian cooperation, including holding joint events this year. The possibilities of strengthening ties between science, education, healthcare and sports are considered. ///nCa, 13 February 2025
