On 8 April in Tashkent, SRSG Kaha Imnadze met with the Chairperson of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ms. Tanzila Narbaeva, discussing prospects of the Central Asian Women Leaders’ Caucus (CAWLC), including in the light of Uzbekistan’s upcoming presidency in the CAWLC in 2026. They also canvassed UNRCCA’s role in enhancing regional peace and security in Central Asia, and preventive diplomacy activities to counter adverse effect of climate change on regional security, following the recent Samarkand Climate Forum.
Ms. Narbaeva stressed the Uzbekistan leadership’s strong belief in resolving conflicts and tensions solely through diplomacy and peaceful negotiations, based on the universal principles of international law, the UN Charter and resolutions, expressing full support to the UNRCCA activities, and underscoring the importance of its regional mandate in today’s complex geopolitical environment.
The parties also exchanged views on the important role of the parliamentarians in promoting peace, stability and sustainable development, as Uzbekistan was hosting the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s (IPU) 150th Assembly. ///UNRCCA, 9 April 2025
