The Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan has approved the Law “On ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of Turkmenistan on the regime of the Kazakh-Turkmen state border,” Kazinform reports.
According to the information briefed during the Senate session, the agreement on the regime of the Kazakh-Turkmen state border, signed in October 2021, will regulate various situations arising at checkpoints and other issues.
The regime of the state border regulates the crossing of the border by citizens and transport, the movement of goods and other property across the state border, the implementation of flights across the state border, the implementation of economic and other activities on the state border, border strips, as well as on the territory of border waters. In addition, the document contains legal norms regarding the settlement of border incidents.
Currently, there is one border division, 4 border outposts and 9 technical control posts equipped with radar stations, 2 checkpoints on the Turkmen-Kazakh border.
This agreement is concluded for an unlimited period. It is valid until one of the parties notify the other party in written form about its intention to stop it through diplomatic channels.
Turkmenistan ratified the agreement in April 2022. Earlier, the ratification was approved by the lower house of the Parliament of Kazakhstan (Mazhilis). ///nCa, 21 April 2023
