The “Women Artisans of Central Asia: A Lookbook Journey,” a new publication launched by USAID features the exceptional work of 50 women artisans from Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, each piece a testament to their vibrant cultural heritage and exquisite craftsmanship.
The Lookbook offers a gateway to amazing variety of hand-woven carpets, intricate wood carvings, gleaming metalwork, and delicate ceramics. Each exquisite item, born from tradition and nurtured by talent, whispers stories of women who are the custodians of their communities’ legacies.
For generations, these craftswomen have been the beating heart of rural communities. They are not just economic engines, but also the keepers of history, weaving cultural threads into every intricate motif. The Lookbook focuses on their talent, opening doors to global markets.
The Lookbook is a collaboration between USAID’s Trade Central Asia activity, the Smithsonian Institution, and the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Commercial Law Development Program, implemented in partnership with the Union of Artisans in Kazakhstan.
