From 16 to 19 April this year, Almaty is hosting a seminar organized by the Japan International Cooperation Agency JICA in cooperation with the Kazakhstan Agency of International Development «KazAID», the Kazakh Research Institute of Construction and Architecture and the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction.
Japan, being one of the most seismically active countries on Earth, has developed many technologies and measures to mitigate the effects of earthquakes. The experience and expertise of Japanese specialists in the field of seismic safety are an invaluable source of knowledge for the countries of Central Asia and the Caucasus. Emergency specialists from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan were invited to participate in the seminar. Japanese experts will provide an extensive analysis of modern technical prospects for seismic insulation, including world standards in this field. They will talk about the advanced methods and technologies used in Japan to create earthquake-resistant structures and will demonstrate examples of basic insulation design that are a model for the global construction industry.
An important aspect of the seminar is a discussion of possible cooperation between Japan and Kazakhstan in the field of seismic engineering. Experts from Japan and Kazakhstan will also discuss the recent earthquakes that occurred in Almaty and Noto, Japan. Participants will share experiences and lessons learned, examine the magnitude of disasters, causes and consequences, as well as measures to rebuild and strengthen infrastructure after seismic shocks.
The discussion of these cases will help workshop participants better understand the threat of seismic risks and jointly develop strategies to prevent and manage similar situations in the future. ///KazAID, 16 April 2024
