On 13 July 2024, the sixth meeting of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan of the seventh convocation was held. At the meeting, the deputies discussed and adopted draft laws.
In connection with the elections of deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan on 7 July this year, a resolution of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan “On recognizing the powers of deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan elected in separate electoral districts” was adopted.
During the meeting, the amendments and additions to the following laws and codes were adopted:
• Budget Code
• Sanitary Code of Turkmenistan
• The Code of Turkmenistan on Social Protection of the Population
• The Law “On Physical Education and Sports”
• The Law “On State Scientific and Technical Policy”
• The Law “On Scientific Institutions”
• The Law “On combating Doping in Sports”
• The Law “On Seed Production”
• The Law “On Amendments and Additions to Some Legislative Acts of Turkmenistan.
These amendments will contribute to improving the organization and functioning of the state budget system, the activities of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service, the introduction of a digital system into the work of the Pension Fund of Turkmenistan, the development of relations in the scientific system, physical education and sports services, the fight against doping in sports, strengthening control over the provision of organizational and methodological assistance to the bar and advocacy, modernization of activities bodies entitled to state registration of acts of civil status, regulation of relations, related to bringing seed production activities in line with the requirements of the time.
The meeting also reviewed and adopted several laws of Turkmenistan on the ratification and accession to international conventions and agreements, legislative support for foreign policy initiatives.
In this regard, Laws have been adopted:
• “On the ratification of the Protocol to the Partnership Agreement between Turkmenistan, on the one hand, and the European Union and its Member States, on the other hand, considering that the Republic of Bulgaria, the Republic of the Czech Republic, the Republic of Estonia, the Republic of Croatia, the Republic of Cyprus, the Republic of Latvia, the Republic of Lithuania, Hungary, the Republic of Malta, the Republic of Poland, Romania, the Republic of Slovenia and the Republic of Slovakia have joined the European Union.”
• “On accession to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.”
• The Law of Turkmenistan “On Ratification of the Amendment to Article VI of the Statute of the International Atomic Energy Agency, adopted on October 1, 1999”
• The Law of Turkmenistan “On Accession to the Protocol to the Eurasian Patent Convention on the Protection of Industrial Designs of September 9, 1994”.
