On November 26, 2024, a meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Pia Kauma, who arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the second Ashgabat Conference “Parliamentary Diplomacy in the OSCE Area: Dialogue as a Tool for Building Bridges for a Secure and Peaceful Future”.
The participants emphasized the special importance of the long-standing fruitful cooperation between Turkmenistan and the OSCE within the political, economic, environmental and humanitarian dimensions.
During the meeting, the parties noted the commitment of neutral Turkmenistan to the development of a modern architecture of energy security and sustainable transport for regional and international economic growth.
In particular, Turkmenistan, being Afghanistan’s closest neighbor, advocates the integration of international efforts to ensure political and economic stability in the friendly country and provides it with consistent assistance in the construction of social facilities free of charge.
The importance of projects and programs implemented in these areas was noted. Prospects for cooperation with the OSCE were also discussed, in particular the possibility of creating new forms of interaction in order to promote partnership between parliamentarians in the region.
The parties emphasized the relevance of coordinating common efforts to ensure security, energy development, and transport connectivity. Along with this, the need to continue exchanging experience in the field of human rights protection, interaction to strengthen democratic institutions and the rule of law was noted. /// nCa, 27 November 2024 (in cooperation with MFA Turkmenistan)
